MoveIn Accountability Policy
[Updated Feb 2025]
In MoveIn, we desire a culture of healthy accountability and transparency at every level of the movement. Leaders, staff, and MoveIners all operate in positions of influence where there is potential both for great good—and also great harm—in the lives of others. Moreover, we are witnesses of Christ in our neighbourhoods and both build each other up and hold each other to a high standard of Christian conduct.
MoveIn’s Leadership Structure
As “regular people”, individual MoveIners are accountable to their local church and Christian community, their families, the MoveIn team of which they are part, their Regional Rep (MoveIn staff) and—as citizens or residents of a locality—to their communities and the governments and authorities over them.
MoveIn staff members—who are also MoveIners—are accountable to each other and the MoveIn Leadership Team. MoveIn Leadership Team members are accountable to each other and the Executive Director (Nigel Paul). The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors. The members of the Board of Directors are accountable to each other, the Chair of the Board, and to governing authorities.
Reporting Structure
If there is ever a concern of abuse in any form within the movement, concerned persons are encouraged to report to the most appropriate authority:
If there is a concern related to any form of illegal activity (abuse or otherwise), the concerned party should go directly to municipal authorities (e.g., the police).
If there is a concern related to misconduct, abuse of power, moral failure, etc., the concerned person(s) should report to a leader in the movement:
MoveIners can report to their Regional Representative
Non-MoveIners can report to anyone on the MoveIn Vision Team
MoveIn Vision Team members can report to the Leadership Team
Leadership Team members can report to the Board of Directors
Concerned parties are encouraged to report according to the guidelines above. If they are not comfortable sharing their concerns with a specific leader or if they feel a leader has not responded to their concerns adequately, they may go to the next level of authority until the concern has been adequately addressed.
Abuse Prevention
Within the MoveIn Vision Team, we have a code of conduct, accountability structures, abuse prevention policies, and reporting policies in place. If you go to a staff member with concerns, they are to follow our protocol in addressing them.
At MoveIn-wide events involving vulnerable populations (e.g., children), we have a Plan to Protect policy in place that is mandated by our insurance provider and strictly adhered to.
While MoveIn teams are made up of “regular people”, we encourage all teams to exercise wisdom and discernment as they interact with vulnerable populations in their patches and beyond. For events involving children, Plan to Protect policies are advised.
Please review the content and slides from the “Leading Kids Safely in Our Patches” session from MoveIner23 to learn more about our recommendations.
